Alabaster DePlume

Site Festival : Live music

Friday 13th April 8pm
4 John Street, Stroud GL5 2HA

This fluid live music performance reassures with behaviour and sound while it challenges with thoughts and words. With two recent viral clips shared close to a thousand times with 55K minutes viewed, the show delivers a distinct political philosophy through hilarious and provocative honesty. The quartet performance described as “The best artistic event I have ever experienced in my life” on the Manchester Jazz Festival website has also toured solo internationally. Collaborating with a fresh ensemble of musicians each month in his East London development residency ‘Peach’, saxophonist and spoken word artist Alabaster DePlume is engaging communities in the production of his 4th album The Corner of a Sphere. Instrumentals, songs and words respond to musicians, audience and occasion, in celebration of the individuality of all present.

Duffle, 2 John St, GL5 2HA
The once proud tradition of signwriting that originated on ancient gravestones and in medieval heraldry has been in decline since its glory days in Victorian Britain. For over thirty years, evidence of the trade has all but disappeared from urban landscapes as every town high street becomes wrapped in predicable plastic. All is not lost however! A new and dedicated generation of signwriters and illustrators are helping to revive the craft into a relevant art form by paying homage to traditional skills with an awareness of current tastes and modern graphic design so the purpose of the Stroud ‘Signed up’ initiative is to give individuals a chance to promote their various styles and skills...

Open Studios

Site Festival: Open Studios

5th - 6th and 12th- 13th May
Stroud district

Open Studios will feature 85 artists across the district for our 22nd annual Open Studios event - we hope we can make this one even more enticing and exciting to hundreds of new and regular visitors.

You will be able to pick up an Open Studios Directory from beginning of April from SVA, tourist information, shops and cafes in Stroud so you can plan ahead. The Open Studios Weekend is a great way to meet artists, find out more about the ideas behind their work and the techniques they use. Don’t forget, you can also buy art works directly from Open Studios artists too! SVA has been hosting Open Studios since 1997 with a handful of artists and it has now expanded into one the best rurally based Open Studios events in the UK.

Three Cane Whale

Site Festival : Film and live music

Saturday 12th May 8pm
The Goods Shed, Stroud GL5 3AP

Expect a stage strewn with upwards of 15 instruments (some familiar, such as trumpet, mandolin, & acoustic guitar; some beguilingly unusual, including the eerie bowed psaltery & a late-Victorian Scottish acoustic keyboard called the Dulcitone), allowing for some striking multiple instrumental combinations and an overall soundworld unlike any other.

'At The Pictures' sees the band performing live to twelve brand new short films created by thirteen filmmakers & visual artists in response to 3CW tunes of their choice - including cutting-edge animations, lo-fi shadow-puppetry, alfresco contemporary dance, and slowly shifting landscapes from Cornwall to the Lofoten Islands.
