Stroud and its surroundings have a great range of jazz players. This night is for their coming together, and tonight features Manteca : Karen Gilbert sax vox and her band.
Manteca have an unusual and interesting line up consisting of three songwriters, Phil Harris on guitar, Mark Faulkner on keys, and Karen Gilbert on sax & vocals. The trio, aptly named for their warm buttery sounds infused with added spice, have between them formed a fantastic collection of original cool jazz songs blended with some jazz funk and even a little Latin. Smooth, warm, woody vocals, blended with grooving piano and crisp, bright guitar solos and a light sprinkling of sax.... delicious!
After Manteca's opening performance, all are welcome for our energetic-frenetic open jam.
