Jazz Club Stroud
Friday 23rd October, 7:00pm
The jam is hosted by Stroud Jazz Collective and Stroud Valleys Artspace and has been born out of the former Stroud Jazz Sessions, celebrated for over a decade in Stroud.
Mowat is a self-taught jazz composer, band-leader, trumpeter, improviser, promoter, curator, mentor and project creator, social-justice activist, spoken-word poet and tour organiser. He sees music as an expression of soul and a practitioner of the art of bringing diverse people together to create community through music.
Part Swiss, part English, his main inspirations include Western classical music, Christian hymns, political street bands, The Blues, Miles Davis, Don Cherry, Keith Tippett, klezmer, North Indian and West African cultures, Hugh Masakela, music of the Middle East. Mowat is a community development professional (retired). Mowat has favoured live music and a facilitative approach for others over album-making and single-minded band promotion. But in his late 60s he’s rediscovering the mojo he had in his 30s, so that is changing!
All are invited to these sessions - whether you’d like to play or just listen and enjoy.
