Tokyo-based Japanese Tap Dancer and scrap metal percussionist returns to Stroud after her sold out show here last November. For this visit she’ll be collaborating with acclaimed Saxophonist Rachel Musson and maverick drummer Tony Orrell. REONA — Tap Dancer, Improviser & Metal Percussionist
Tokyo-based Japanese artist Reona is a tap dancer, improviser and metal percussionist whose work transforms rhythm into a physical and sonic experience. Beginning tap at four, she has developed a distinctive practice incorporating tap shoes, metal, wood and found objects. Her performances move between intricate rhythm, noise and improvisation. She has collaborated with artists across jazz, experimental and noise music. Collaborators include Akira Sakata, Fumio Itabashi, Takashi Seo, Chris Cundy, Mike Adcock and Yoshinori Motoki.
RACHEL MUSSON — Saxophonist & Flautist
Saxophonist and improviser Rachel Musson is a distinctive voice within the UK’s experimental music scene. Her playing combines intensity, delicacy and an instinctive responsiveness to the musicians around her, embracing melody, texture and extended techniques. She has collaborated with leading figures including Mark Sanders, Evan Parker, Pat Thomas, Hannah Marshall and Corey Mwamba. Her work spans solo performance, ensemble playing and composition, always rooted in a spirit of exploration and discovery.
TONY ORRELL — Drummer & Percussionist
Bristol-based drummer Tony Orrell brings a wealth of experience across jazz, improvisation, rock and experimental music. Renowned for his instinctive and open approach, he has performed and recorded with artists including Paul Dunmall, Evan Parker, Keith Tippett, Andy Sheppard, Adrian Utley and Marc Ribot. His playing combines rhythmic imagination with a keen sensitivity to the musicians around him, creating space for music to develop spontaneously and unpredictably in the moment.
