Born in London, raised in Bristol, Cambridge educated, Jake McMurchie has been an influential member of the thriving South West jazz scene for nearly three decades. His distinctive sound, imagination and melodic invention have made him a key member of many of the most innovative and exciting bands to emerge from the south west, notably Get The Blessing, Michelson Morley, Out Front, 6161, The Jazz Defenders, Uphill Game to name just a few. Get The Blessing has been described as “... the heavyweights of the contemporary jazz scene” by The Independent and "... they may well be the most original and exciting band on the British scene” by Jazzwise magazine. Jake has also played with a host of other great musicians and bands/artists such as NYJO, Portishead, Massive Attack, Super Furry Animals, Jim Moray, and with the great Portuguese singer Fernando Tordo.
‘..the inventive McMurchie, his sensual tone falling somewhere between early Sonny Rollins and Plas Johnson, was a revelation. Where has he been?’
London Evening Standard
