Local/Global Communities of Care: film project space

  • SVA Stroud Valleys Artspace Stroud United Kingdom (map)

Mr Mandelia in Limbo, director Lotje Sodderland

Friday 10 March and Saturday 11 March, 10am–3pm

Local/Global Communities of Care: film project space is an iterative expansion of a Stroud Film Festival event co-curated by local practitioners, Hatty Frances Bell (filmmaker and SVA artist) and Alice Butler (writer). In the SVA John St Gallery on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 March, a revised programme of short films and moving image works by women and gender-variant artists will be showing, which explore anti-capitalist practices of care, repair, and solidarity.

The films – by artists and directors including Oreet Ashery, Marita Fraser, Jade Montserrat, Lotje Sodderland, and Sharon Young – unravel the relations between pasts and presents, human and non-human worlds, carer and (un)cared for. Creating further opportunities for live engagement and conversation following the Stroud Film Festival event, Hatty and Alice invite people to come to the gallery to encounter, witness, watch, revisit, respond, stay with, in correspondence with the work and resources ‘on care’.
