EVENTS MARKETING AND SITE FESTIVAL ASSISTANT

Summary

Stroud Valley Artspace (SVA) is a cultural hub created by and for artists in the heart of Stroud. For the last 30 years it has offered studio, exhibition, events space and opportunities for artists' professional and creative development. SVA is filled to the brim with artistic activity throughout the year; providing cultural experiences and opportunities to enjoy contemporary art, experimental music and performance events. We take pride in our community of artists and audiences and we are now reaching out to grow our creative team to help us continue our work.

Type of Person We Are Looking For

We need a bright, enthusiastic and articulate person who is self-motivated and very committed to developing their arts management and marketing skills. Artistic skills and experience are desirable but not essential.

Role Details

Salary: £25,974 - £27,898 pro rata based on a 37-hour week, depending on experience (approx. £10,530 - £11,310 per year for 15 hours per week)

Contracted hours: 15 hrs per week to fall within SVA's office hours Tues-Fri, 10am-3pm. Flexible additional hours may occasionally be required for some evening and weekend work (details on how this time is compensated to be confirmed at interview).

Duration of contract: 12 months, to be reviewed at the end of the period with the possibility of renewal, subject to funding and performance.

Trial period: 6 weeks

Start date: End of October

Purpose of the Role

This role sits at the heart of SVA, covering event marketing and Site Festival assistance alongside office administration. The role will support SVA's team in building new audiences, deepening engagement with our artistic community, and strengthening our financial sustainability through earned income. We're looking for someone who loves visiting exhibitions and arts events, and feels at ease connecting with artists, visitors and audiences.

NEW TRUSTEE RECRUITMENT

Help shape what happens next

We are looking for new trustees to join the SVA board.

SVA has been at the heart of Stroud's cultural life since 1996. We run two spaces: John Street, home to our gallery, project space and 26 artists' studios, and the Brunel Goods Shed, our performance, exhibition and film venue by the station. We are in discussion about a third. We produce Site Festival and Jazz Stroud, host artists in residence and put on a year-round programme of exhibitions, music, film and events.

Our aim is to co-create imaginatively radical moments of magic, joy and meaningful connection. We are a registered charity, supported by Arts Council England and Stroud District Council..

WHY NOW

The organisation has grown and changed. With two buildings, possibly a third, a bigger programme and plans to make the Goods Shed fully accessible, we need a board with the right mix of skills and experience to help shape our work going forward.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We want a diverse, community-minded board that reflects the areas we work in and the people who work with us and come to our events. We would particularly welcome people with expertise in:

• finance

• building management, particularly from an environmental perspective

• operations, for example HR

• social media and marketing

• access and inclusion

• business development, particularly in a community arts venue or hospitality

You do not need to have been a trustee before, and you do not need to work in the arts. We are also keen to hear from younger people and from anyone who feels their community is not yet represented on our board.

WHAT THE ROLE INVOLVES

Trustees are volunteers. Together the board is responsible for SVA's governance: setting direction, keeping an eye on finances and risk, and supporting the directors and staff team who run the organisation day to day.

• four to five board meetings a year, held in Stroud, with papers sent in advance

• occasional input between meetings where your particular expertise is useful

• coming to SVA events when you can, so you know the work and the people

WHAT YOU GET

• experience of charity governance and training, for example in safeguarding

• free entry to all SVA events

• working alongside artists, musicians and a committed team of staff and fellow trustees
