Talk
In 2011, Peter was part of a group of independents who took control of Frome Town Council. In his words: “We were a bunch of people who'd never done it before, we got into power and we questioned all the rules, took most of them to pieces, and did things very differently.” From that experience came Flatpack Democracy, a book and a movement that helps others rethink the relationship between communities and local government.
Peter comes to Stroud to share the story of Loop:Frome: what it is, how it came into being, and where it’s headed and most importantly, how we might learn from it here in Stroud. Loop:Frome’s mission is to build a regenerative community. With a vision to “rescue the town nutrients”, it is starting with food waste, turning it into nutrient-rich compost.
Hosted by local filmmaker Eoghan McDonaugh and Andy Freedman, compost enthusiast and co-founder of Walking the Land’s Growing Places Project. Who should come? Local restaurant and café owners, business owners, growers, composters, councillors, and anyone interested in community innovation.
