Using a geophone, a microphone that listens underground, we’ll record the hidden sounds of the soil and build them into a track that joins musicians from around the world and for sound art installation at SVA.

Workshop with Sophie Ferrier. Bring a soil sample from your garden, allotment or favourite woodland. Put it under a microscope and make a print, a soil fingerprint unique to your patch of ground, as part of a growing archive of Stroud’s soils.

What's living in your soil? Come and find out.
Bring a soil sample. From your garden, allotment, a favourite woodland, or beneath a tree you know well. Sophie will put it under the microscope so you can see what's actually living in it. You can also make a print from your sample - a kind of soil fingerprint, unique to your patch of ground. Come back the following weekend to collect it, and your print will become part of a growing archive of Stroud's soils.

Artist, community compost activist, and soil advocate Sophie Lilian Ferrier will be guiding the young people of Stroud through an explorative and creative worm tunnel, connecting workshop participants with Soils and the microorganisms that live underground supporting our food systems, and our everyday consumption.
